Spring officially starts today. And while residents in parts of the Northeast were shoveling snow last week, the LifeStyle Homes team and our fellow Brevard County residents have been basking in picture-perfect weather. It’s true that springtime in Florida—especially along the East Coast—is simply the best. It’s not too hot, not too cold, and outdoor activities abound.
Here are 8 reasons why we wouldn’t want to live anywhere else than Brevard during this time of year.
- Beach days. Those who live in Brevard know that, for the most part, we don’t have a beach season. Our sandy shores can be enjoyed almost year-round with the blue skies and cool breezes of spring making for ideal beach weather.
- Golf life. From South Melbourne Beach’s Aquarina Country Golf Club to La Cita Golf and Country Club in Titusville and everywhere in between, there are about 30 world-glass golf courses throughout Brevard. Spring is the perfect time to hit the greens, before it gets too hot.
- Fish on. This is one of the most exciting times of year for Brevard’s fishermen. Various sport fishing associations host tournaments from Sebastian Inlet to Port Canaveral where the area’s offshore anglers reel in everything from cobia to king fish to mahi-mahi. If you’re not a serious angler, you can still get hooked. Brevard is home to numerous charter captains who will take your family on the Indian River Lagoon, Banana River, or offshore in the Atlantic Ocean for a day of fishing fun.
- Port Canaveral. Speaking of Port Canaveral, spring is the ideal time to enjoy this Brevard County treasure. Not only can families easily hop aboard a major cruise ship bound for the Caribbean from here, the Port is essentially a destination in itself. It’s home to multiple restaurants and nightlife spots; parks, offering boat ramps, beaches, and camping; as well as the newly erected Exploration Tower with interactive exhibits and observation towers.
- Kennedy Space Center. Also on the north end of the county is Brevard’s most famous attraction, Kennedy Space Center. Although manned space shuttle launches have ceased, KSC is still a wonderful place to watch a rocket launch, offering the closest public viewing areas. Look for upcoming rocket launches here. And in the meantime, spend a beautiful spring day learning about America’s space history at the Visitor’s Complex.
- Wildlife walks. Brevard is home to numerous wildlife sanctuaries and protected lands that allow residents to get up-close with the area’s wildlife. Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge, Viera Wetlands, and Turkey Creek Sanctuary in Palm Bay are just a few of the spots throughout Brevard where visitors can pack a lunch and spend a day outdoors viewing various species of birds, manatees, alligators, and other wildlife in its natural habitat.
- Brevard Zoo. Brevard County public schools spring break is in a few weeks. This is a great time to stroll around the many animal exhibits at Brevard Zoo with your kids, or go on a zip-lining and obstacle course adventure at the zoo’s Treetop Trek.
- Downtown Destinations. If you want to kill a springtime afternoon, take a stroll through one of Brevard’s downtown destinations, like Downtown Melbourne, the Eau Gallie Arts District, Cocoa Village, or Downtown Titusville. These historic areas are home to numerous outdoor restaurants, breweries, galleries, antique shops, clothing retailers, and more. Spring also brings about various festivals in our downtown area, including the Festival of the Arts in Downtown Melbourne on March 25th and 26th; and the Spring Central Florida Car Show in Cocoa Village on April 15th.
Happy Spring, everyone!
