It’s been 10 years since LifeStyle Homes launched the LifeStyle SunSmart℠ energy-saving initiative in partnership with the building scientists at the Florida Solar Energy Center (FSEC). For a solid decade, by constructing every home “SunSmart,” LifeStyle Homes has been intently focused on building homes that live better while saving homeowners money on their monthly energy bills.

And while LifeStyle SunSmart℠ has grown and evolved throughout the years — and will continue to do so as advancements are made — its foundation hasn’t changed. LifeStyle SunSmart℠ is comprised of a multitude of tested and re-tested energy-saving building features that work to improve a home’s performance. To date, LifeStyle Homes has built approximately 900 homes to this higher standard.

Here are a few of the newest SunSmart℠ features that LifeStyle Homes has added to benefit homeowners.

  1. TiO® smart-home automation system. LifeStyle Homes introduced the TiO® home-automation system into our homes as a standard feature last July. Today, LifeStyle homeowners experience the convenience of home control using their smartphones or tablets. Forget to turn off a light before leaving for work? You can do so using your smart device from anywhere in the world to avoid needless energy usage.
  2. WiFi-enabled thermostat. From an energy-saving standpoint, the TiO® home-automation system offers another big advantage. It works together with the WiFi-enabled thermostat included in every LifeStyle home, allowing homeowners the ability to control the temperature and humidity of their home using their smartphone or tablet.
  3. LED lighting. LEDs are widely used these days, and for good reason. They are highly efficient and reduce energy waste by at least 75% when compared to traditional incandescent bulbs. They also last significantly longer. As LEDs became more cost-effective, LifeStyle Homes made the leap from CFLs to include these superior lights standard.
  4. Peel-and-stick roof underlayment. LifeStyle Homes is proud to now include peel-and-stick roof underlayment on every home. This self-adhesive barrier allows for maximum protection from water intrusion caused by severe weather. Here in Central Florida, roofing systems that have peel-and-stick underlayment are at a great advantage to guard against wind-driven rain from entering the home.
