It’s hard to believe that it has already been four years since LifeStyle Homes led a rally of amazing volunteers to build a 3,400 square-foot home in 196 hours for the Hurston family of Cocoa. That was such a special time for Space Coast community members who came out in droves to help this wonderful family. As many of you recall, Joe and Cindy Hurston were selected by ABC’s Extreme Makeover team to receive this gift due to their commitment to bring clean water to disaster victims all over the world.
Well, in true Hurston-family fashion, their mission has not stalled. Since the show aired in February 2011, their charity, Air Mobile Ministries, has helped save many lives in Japan and the Philippines following natural disasters in both of these countries. Air Mobile Ministries has also continued to bring clean water to Haiti whose residents are in constant need.
Even so, urgent requests for Air Mobile Ministries’ water purifiers still pour in. Today, Pakistan, India, and Mexico have joined the charity’s “waiting for water” list. And as you can imagine, the Hurstons desperately want to help victims in these countries as well.
That said, Joe and Cindy Hurston are opening the doors to their Extreme Makeover home on Saturday, December 6th. The family is hosting a Christmas party and concert fundraiser called “Let it Flow.” The event will take place from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. at 5560 Fan Palm Avenue, Cocoa.
Here’s what you can expect: From 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., “Let it Flow” will kick off with a kid-friendly wonderland, including snow, costume characters, and concert by Aldrich and James—two talented musicians from the Philippines. From 7 p.m. to 10 p.m., the event will be geared more toward the adult crowd with a silent auction and more.
The ultimate goal of “Let it Flow” is to raise $28,000, which will allow Air Mobile Ministries to deliver two water purifiers to each “waiting for water” disaster site. This would allow 1,000 people in each of these in-need countries to drink pure water!
The Hurstons are seeking sponsorship donations from businesses and individuals. LifeStyle Homes is proud to announce that through the collective effort and generosity of our staff and subcontractors, we reached our donation goal of $2,500!
With all this said, we sincerely hope you will join the party and donate whatever you are able this Saturday afternoon and evening. “Let it Flow” will be wonderful event featuring, food, entertainment, and peeks around the Hurston family’s “extreme” home that so many of you helped to build.
